Amagwinya or Vetkoek is a crispy, mouth-watering South African classic! This #JustDelicious Amagwinya, Polony & Cheesy recipe gives it a tasty twist. A budget beater and a crowd pleaser!

Makes: 12

Ingredients:

 

100 g

Eskort French Polony

700 ml

cake flour

15 ml

white sugar

7.5 ml

instant dried yeast

400 ml

water

2 L

sunflower oil

100 ml

chakalaka

100 g

cheddar cheese, grated

Method:

  • Mix the flour, white sugar and instant yeast together.

  • Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients, pour in the water, knead well together.

  • Place in a bowl and cover, leave to rise for 30 minutes.

  • Portion into 12 medium sized dough-balls.

  • Bring the oil to a medium heat, place the dough-balls into the oil, only a few at a time.

  • Fry on both sides, until cooked inside and golden.

  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towelling.

  • Serve with slices of polony, a dollop of chakalaka and grated cheddar cheese.
