| Choose a colour theme for your party, stick to the colours when using flowers, napkins, charger plates etc. | |
| Create the atmosphere Use lots and lots of candle light, use candlesticks or tea light candles. Make your centre pieces part of the lighting. Use unscented candles - you don’t want your guests' senses to deviate from the delicious aroma of your food. | |
| Use small glass fish bowls, add a few coloured marbles to the bottom, fill with water and add a floating candle. | |
| Use fairy lights in and amongst your flower arrangements as a part of your centre piece. Alternatively add fresh flower petals instead of the marbles. | |

If you are entertaining in a tiled, paved or any smooth non carpeted area, then sprinkle flower petals onto your floor. This may create some mess but it is well worth it. Not only does it provide an attractive setting, but once the petals are bruised (trodden upon), they release magnificent fragrances. Petals can be sprinkled onto the table, side table and the serving area.

| Have pitchers of water on your table. For an elegant touch, add fruit or edible petals or mint to your pitcher or directly onto the table. | |

Add a small piece of fruit, a herb leaf or an edible petal to the individual compartments of an ice cube tray, fill with water and freeze. Add these ice blocks to your pitcher to provide an appealing pitcher of cold water.

Write your guests names on the wine glasses (for a more casual evening), use a marker that will be easy to wash off.

For a more festive, casual theme, drape ribbon on the back of the chairs, be careful not to let these drape onto the floor, you don’t want any accidents occurring. Drape ribbons over your light fittings, remembering to keep to your colour theme.
